8 year old Grethe Verwey and her identical twin sister was born on 21 January 2010. At the age of 6, in June 2016 Grethe was diagnosed with Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN). PAN is a very rare disease that only affects 1 in every 100,000 people. It occurs from blood Vessel Inflammation causing injury to the organ system.
Little Grethe’s kidney had to be removed in Red Cross Children’s Hospital 2 weeks after the diagnosis ,due to zero kidney function. The reason for the removal was that her kidney didn’t receive blood for a long period of time, as a result of her arteries being blocked.
To keep this girl functioning 100%, her daily medication includes 12 tablets. It has been a long and tiring road but through it all Little Grethe has been an inspiration to everyone that meets her, and continues to influence everyone through her faith.
